Day 212 - Weds 1st Aug - Day 5 Olympics - Gold Rush, happiness & friendship

"Typical. You wait 6 days for a gold medal and then 2 come along at once." (overheard quote from Gen Public this afternoon)

What is the meaning of life? This is a question many have asked throughout the ages. Well today i found it. I found it in several areas. Here's how and where:

1 - Not getting up for a job i hate this morning.

2 - putting an extra hole in my belt as it's too big when getting dressed.

3 - Cycling at home whilst watching GB win gold medal in Rowing to dramatic commentary. Sent shivers down my spine

4 - Meeting my old school pal Peach for the day visiting from Rio

5 - Going to Hampton Court for the day to watch Brad Wiggins and Chris Froome go for the gold in the Men's Time Trial

6-  Massive crowds at Hampton Wick, Kingston, Hampton Court. Buzzing excitement and 5-8 deep all round the course.

7 - Getting a great spot with 150 metres to go near the big TV screen so we can watch coverage

8 - The Sun being out all day. Glorious.

9 - The incredible atmosphere when GB riders went off

10 - Ushering a small kid through the bodies to the front so he could see. Who knows he may be inspired and become the next Olympic champ, all because i forced him to go to the front.

11 - The roar when Froome went past and went into lead

12 - The setting of Hampton Court on the TV, Stunning

13 - The use of thrones to house 1st, 2nd, 3rd position. Class idea and superbly British.

14 - The buzz of crowd when Wiggins came up and then past us

15 - the roar when he went over the line and won Gold

16 - The victory ceremony surrounded by thousands of people chanting 'wiggo, wiggo'. This was cycling. Amazing.

17 - Asking directions to the station from Nasty Nick Cotton. (whom i know)

18 - Sitting in Hampton Court Palace gardens chatting to my mate

19 - Hanging out at home watching reruns of Gold medal victories with me mate

20 - Listening to Peach play my fathers guitar. 1st time it's been played ever. Nice

21 - Going out with a curry with my mate and getting terrible service and over ordering food whilst reminiscing about old times.

22 - Sitting on Richmond Hill overlooking the River at the dead of night with my mate talking about happiness and being chilled and contented.

23 - Laughing my arse off with a mate who's got similar sense of humour. Good times

24 - Going to bed contented after a lovely day

Day's don't get much better really. GB duly delivered 2 gold medals, i was there to witness one of them with an estimated 1 million other people and one of my oldest mates i hadn't see in ages.

I realised i don't need money or prestige or power to be happy. I don't need 'stuff', i don't need glamour & glitz. All i need is real time, friendship, peace, contentment, gratitude and to do some good turns now and again. All i need is a purpose, hard work, dedication and an inner acceptance.

That's what i need to be happy and today delivered pretty much all those things, plus it was funny to see grown men sporting fake stick on sideburns. I've been doing that for years, such is my dedication to the 'burn.

Today was a great day and long may the gold rush continue

xx
