Some days are just effortless. They just happen and turn out to be little beauties. Nothing dramatic or ultra amazing has to happen it just turns out nicely. Today was one of those.
Got up, met friends at Green Park, it was Olympic triathlon day at Hyde Park. Sun shone, crowds were enormous, the buzz in the air was crackling. London was superb.
Couldn't really get too close to the course as crowds were so vast, but perched on Hyde Park corner and saw the peleton go past a few times with the Brownlee Brothers leading. It was just groovy to be part of it all. To feel the vibe, to see the colour, hear the roar as GB boys went by, to see the Athletes. To be 'on the street'. Soaking up the Olympic vibe.
We absconded to a local Mayfair pub to watch the run on TV. Every pub was heaving. People were 5 deep outside against the windows, pressed up trying to find a glimpse of the TV. It was insane. Tuesday lunchtime, central London, 1pm, everywhere jam packed with people watching Triathlon, Mental. It genuinely was Olympic fever and i was slap bank in the middle of it.
Brownlee brothers brought home gold and bronze in 1 hour 46 Min's, a full 55 minutes quicker than my PB for Olympic Triathlon. They are monsters. Nice boys but total beasts when it comes to Triathlon. Pushing their body to the limits and beyond. Impressive. Gold number 20.
21 followed with the Team Equestrian. YYYEEEESSSSS!!! See i told you Equestrianism is fucking ace. Love it.
We then went to a Lebanese restaurant and sat outside, having a long lazy lunch chewing the fat (well Lebanese Meze) until late in the afternoon, the perfect Olympic day.
It was then time to watch the track cycling as Golds 22 and 23 followed with Laura Trott taking the OMNIUM!!! (Fab event) and Sir Chris Hoy brutalising the field in the Men's Kieren (the one where the little French bloke tootles along on his moped for 5 laps) - It was a Golden hour. Thrilling to watch and had me screaming in the gym. The feel good factor was back and GB had 4 golds in a day. Awesome.
Another great day spent with friends in the middle of Olympic action. An easy day, a fun day and i was having the kind of thoughts about this being a classic tournament with several moments photographed on my mind. It's ace.
As a footnote I'm getting a little stale of writing the blog. I feel that maybe i should mix up the style. The content, the way that i write. Day 217 is a long fucking time and today i enjoyed myself but I'm having negative thoughts when i sit down and write. My brain is saying 'God it's just same thing on a different day'. and 'People are probably getting bored, make it funnier, more interesting, profound, interesting.'
Well, as i know my head is always such a great friend to me, not like it's trying to catch me out is it? That is the state of mind when I'm writing this. I'm telling it to fuck off, but it's hard doing something against the wishes of the head sometimes. But i shall persist and i guess in a year, writing every day you are bound to have dips where you go through a bad patch. I think I'm hitting mine now.
My Olympic moment of the day? Seeing 3 hugely fat Olympic VIP's of different nationalities with their official badges round their neck in the Lebanese restaurant in central London with the most enormous amount of food in front of them tucking in. Made me think. 1 - It's not just GB who has an obesity problem and 2 - Who said Olympic VIP's do nothing apart from dine out and have it easy and 3 - Never mix humous and Taramasalata. Dirty bastards have you no standards?
Another excellent day for Team GB, another fine day for Team Evans, a fairly average day for Team Blog but a great day for Team Not working. I could get use to this!!!
